چکیده
Numerical and experimental research programs have been carried out to investigate the effect of scaling on tensile strength notched composites. This paper presents a computational study scaled open-hole tests using Discrete Ply Model (DPM) method. finite element model is discrete, only small number parameters are required from characterization tests. Experimental numerical values compared here, reveal that DPM simulations tend slightly overestimate values, with an average discrepancy 9.7%. However, Results show such modeling simulates both reduction in when specimen size increased for sublaminate level specimens, where failure fiber dominated, increase ply delamination dominated. In all cases, increasing total thickness leads decrease this dominant over hole diameter. As well as variation strength, three distinct mechanisms observed: extensive matrix damage (pull-out failure), little or no (brittle failure) failure. Comparisons experiments demonstrate strengths, propagation scenarios patterns predicted acceptable accuracy.

Mechanical Behavior of BFRP-Steel Composite Plate under Axial Tension
Combining the advantages of basalt fiber-reinforced polymer (BFRP) material and steel material, a novel BFRP-steel composite plate (BSP) is proposed, where a steel plate is sandwiched between two outer BFRP laminates. The main purpose of this research is to investigate the mechanical behavior of the proposed BSP under uniaxial tension and cyclic tension. Four groups of BSP specimens with four d...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling Of Obliquely Incident Guided Wave Scattering By A Crack In A Laminated Composite Plate
In this paper, we consider scattering by a guided wave incident obliquely on a surface breaking crack in a laminated composite plate, with a view to ultrasonic nondestructive assessment of cracks. The solution to this problem is the first step towards analyzing the general three-dimensional scattering problem. The method used for modeling is a hybrid method which combines finite element method ...
متن کاملBoundary control of vibration of symmetric composite laminated plate
This paper presents a solution to the boundary stabilization of a symmetric composite laminated plate in free transverse vibration. The symmetric composite laminated plate dynamics is presented by a linear fourth order partial differential equation (PDE). A linear control law is constructed to stabilize the plate. The control force consists of feedback of the velocity at the boundary of the pla...
متن کاملOpen-Hole Size and Thermal Cycling Effects on Mass Loss and Surface Degradation of Polymer Matrix Composites
Degradation is a common problem for polymer matrix composites (PMCs) under low thermal cycling conditions. This paper investigates the effects of low thermal cycling on total mass loss (TML) and surface degradation of PMCs. Unnotched and open-hole specimens were weighed before and after low thermal cycling. The total mass loss and surface degradation of the specimens were studied over 250 cycle...
